Come Sano Seguro y Soberano

I have been working with one of our partner organisations CEA (The Ecuadorian Agroecology Coordinator) on a campaign ' Eat healthily, securely and with sovereignty' which aims to promote food sovereignty and create links between small scale farmers and consumers. These pics are from the launch event - a great little fayre we held in the Botanic Garden in Quito.

Fifth National Water Meeting

I went to a meeting in June organised by our partner organisation El Foro de Recursos Hidricos (the Water Resources Forum). Over 2000 people representing diverse water users’ organisations, local governments, NGOs and communities were there for heated debates on a wide range of concerns related to water including irrigation, collective rights, mining and water, hydroelectric projects and dams. Many delegates presented their local experiences of abuses of water rights, inequality and pollution.

The main focus however was a proposal for a new water resources law and for text for the new Ecuadorian constitution. The Forum has been working on proposals to reform the country’s existing outdated water legislation for many years, but their work has been blocked by a lack of agreement in Congress. They are now taking advantage of the current process of constitutional reform in the country to lobby hard on this issue. These pics are of the delegates marching t the seat of the constitutional assembly to deliver their proposals:
